2023-2024 Registration Info

Dear CHS Parents and Students:

We are excited to begin the registration process for our rising 9th - 12th grade students.  Current 9th - 11th grade students received registration information this week during homeroom.  We hope you will find all of the information helpful and will not hesitate to reach out to any of the registration advisors or administrators if you have questions throughout this process.

Please make use of all the resources and information available to you and your student during this time.  Particularly useful to you will be the following links:

  • CHS Registration Guide  / CHS 9th Grade Registration Guide - provides information about all courses offered and prerequisites

  • Explore Electives - this section provides information on specific electives offered at CHS

  • CCP Information - (Rising 11th & 12th Graders ONLY)  CCP classes are taught by faculty from Cleveland Community College.  Students may  work towards completing their associates degree or earn various certifications and/or earn transferable college credits.  To register for CCP classes, you MUST meet with Emily Willis and your Crest High advisor.  We STRONGLY encourage you to meet with Mrs. Willis BEFORE your Crest High registration appointment.  What can you take through CCP?  Check out these document  to learn about classes that are offered (CTE Pathway)(CTP Pathway).  To schedule an appointment with Mrs. Willis, click on this link:  https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/ClevelandCommunityColleg[email protected]/bookings/  Mrs. Willis' office is located in the Career Center of Crest High.  Crest High registration appointments will begin February 24th for rising juniors and on March 8th for rising seniors.  Schedule your appointment with Mrs Willis BEFORE then! If you have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Francis, or Mrs. Grier.  Start scheduling your appointment with Mrs. Willis now!! (CCP Registration Handout)

  • NCSSM Information - North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics Connect Program provides distance education courses to schools across the state.  NC public school students at participating partner schools can supplement the curriculum offered in their home high school by taking tuition-free, honors-level, and AP courses in STEM and humanities from NCSSM via interactive video conferencing.

The registration process is a multi-step event for students.  Students should review the information and talk with parents, guardians, and teachers as they fill out their registration form. Students should bring their completed registration form with them when they meet with their registration advisor during their pre-scheduled meeting (these appointment times will be  given out during homeroom on Thursday, February. 16, 2023)

When students arrive for their registration appointment, they should have the following items:

  • Requested classes (along with 4 alternate courses) selected on the registration sheet.

  • Transcript which lists all courses previously taken (given out in homeroom).

Students are encouraged to take this process seriously.  The course selections students make during

this process will be used to build the master schedule.  Please remember that every attempt to fill

course requests will be made.  However, due to class size and budget restrictions it may be necessary

to use alternate courses.   Please be aware that we will not make schedule changes by request this year.  It is imperative that you are very thoughtful about the courses for which you register.  The courses you register for will be the courses you will take.  In the event that the courses you register for are full or not offered, we will contact you to find a suitable substitution. If we cannot contact you based on the information we have in PowerSchool, you may be placed in a course that fits in your schedule. It is your responsibility to make sure your contact information is correct in PowerSchool before you leave for the summer.  We base our master schedule and the number of sections of each class on the number of students who register for classes.  Schedule changes result in unbalanced classes with too many or too few students.  For this reason, we encourage you to discuss your options carefully with parents, teachers, counselors, career coaches, and other adults to assist with making decisions about the courses best suited for your post-high school plans.  Please take this process very seriously and make mindful decisions about course requests.  Students are encouraged to factor in their personal time management skills when selecting courses.  Consider the level of work and amount of time for honors and AP Courses and match that with any extra-curricular activities to avoid being overextended.

Below is a resource that may help you decide what electives to choose for registration. Take this interest inventory through NC Careers (long version recommended). If you create an account it will save your results.
